lot. in south boston, but the reality is some 600 plows have been out throughout the city all night trying to battle this blizzard. throughout the state, you've got about 4,000 pieces of equipment, the national guard numbering about 5,000, who are on the standby when the teeth of the storm hits. just about an hour or so from now. we blizzard like conditions, if you look up the street, you can barely see up the street. simply because you have this powdery like snow which is blowing all over the place and making things very difficult. i just want to give you an example of how cold it is here. in between live shots, i run to my truck which is being buried in the snow drift, but my photographing stays out so you can get live bumps, live pictures of what is going on. let me show you, hand that to my producer. this is hard. he's like the tin man out here. it's trying to -- thanks, bob, for doing that for us. bob the photographer, who is now literally frozen stiff. >> wow. >> you can see he's still out here shooting, giving us an idea of how cold it gets out here. >> amazing job that all o

of newark? >> the conditions are worsening. walked through all five wards of the city and checked on the crews and the conditions on the street. a lot of stranded cars now. a lot of people out that shouldn't be. so it's very perilous out there and people need to understand that. stay indoofrs and hunker down for the night. conditions will be bad throughout the morning tomorrow. this is not time to take this lightly. very dangerous conditions, especially around motor vehicle accidents. and we areal also on alert for possible power outages in newark if the wind starts to pick up. i'm grateful for the hundreds of workers we have out there from law enforcement to folks plowing and salting streets. a lot of work ahead. >> as the sun will begin to rise in a couple of hours is when, as you mentioned, we will get a better chance to see the damage done. hopefully the streets are cleared. first responders can get out and about. what's the biggest challenge, you think, come tomorrow morning? >> i think it is the mess and getting rid of this from our streets. and hopefully people will stay in

. about a day away from hitting the east coast. we keep talking boston and this could hit new york city. >> providence, hartford, boston up to new hampshire and maine. all of the big cities across the northeast under the gun here. if you are along i-95, it's going to be a line where north of you somewhere it's going to be 20 to 25 inches. south of you it will be two. that's a big range. they will sneak into part of the forecast and not get to the northern part. new york city right now, this computer we are talking about is 15.3 inches of snow. providence is 28.3. the mayor of boston, we showed the picture said please, everybody off the road by noon. city schools are closed. we don't want you stuck on the freeway in a blizzard. this is going happen. people are going to get out with three inches of snow on the ground. they think they will be okay, but they are not. they are going to get stuck in this. three inches now, but two hours later, the be inig inches and not going to be able to get out of the car. this happens all the time. get off the road and stay home. >> here's a heads up. i h

providence, rhode island. rare that you see a car going by. almost every business, city hall, everything is closed here, just like in massachusetts, the governor in connecticut also having that 4:00 ban on any cars and i wouldn't be surprised if it happens here very soon as well. i want to take you on our journey getting here. we just arrived here. it took us over five hours to get here from new york city, a trip that really shouldn't take any more than three hours. along the way, very slow going, light traffic. lots of snow plows but also some very serious accidents. we saw a jackknifed tractor-trailer that ran right into the median. we saw a huge semi that just fell off the side of the highway. we took a picture of that for you guys. that was consistent all the way up here. if you head up to maine, i want to show you some pretty dramatic video in maine. a 19-car pileup in maine. bottom line, the governor saying not a time for sightseeing, not a time for playing around. this is very, very serious. in 1978, 27 inches of snow, 26 deaths. they think this storm could be as bad or worse and

of the snow is east of new york city. everywhere you see pink through here, that's a foot of snow or more, and the purple is 20 to 30 inches of snow. that's from portland, maine, to boston, to providence, that's still to come. you already have 6 on the ground. there's plus 20. that's still a good snowfall. albany, you'll see about 6 to 10 more. down toward new york city, it appears you're almost in this dry area where there will be 8 to your north, 4 to your south, but not a lot more to come still in the city compares to what is on long island, over a foot still to come here. and this is the danger zone, just snowing everywhere out here. it's coming down in buckets because at the low comes through here, its closest position is going to be to boston, not new york city. that's why snow is not going to be as heavy in the city as in boston because the low is much closer there. then by tomorrow afternoon, literally, this thing is gone. saturday, 4:00, 5:00, the snow is completely over. only the wind is left. erin. >> what's the bottom line? there have been competing models. someone said the eu

acase and w got details about a reward that the city is planning to offer. >> reporter: we don't know the amount of the reward that the joint task force is going to announce in about two hours' time. that reward is, that announcement will be from the los angeles police department, los angeles city officials. we do know that the los angeles county board of supervisors, two members of that board of supervisors are going to request a $100,000 reward. we're expecting the other reward to be much larger than that. also as you mentioned, the manhunt in san bernardino is continuing. it is in the san bernardino mountains, i should say. it is as much downsized from yesterday, about 60 investigators combing those mountains. that number was 125 yesterday. >> as the maphunt continues, investigators are continuing to pour through evidence, some of the evidence is exclusive surveillance video obtained by cnn. the surveillance video from the alley behind an auto accessory store in san diego is time-stamped 9:08 monday morning. 12 hours after the daughter of a retired lapd officer and her fiance were

-case scenario to worst-case scenario. what we have today, from new york city, and all to have the boroughs, from new york city and also from bergren county into parts of new jersey, all the way up to portland, all under blizzard warnings right now. there are 23 million people that live in that blizzard warning right now. 23 million affected by this blizzard. and so here's the best-case scenario for the at least amount of snow. a computer model that doesn't believe the merger is going to happen. so 9.7 in albany, 7.5 in new york city, 13 in portland, only 12 in boston. you can only hope that that would happen. this is the miss. this is if it's the best possible scenario. this, now, is the other side of the coin. the storm that does combine, the moisture does get in there, and you get the cold and the warm to mix, 34 in boston, 26 in providence, 14.3 in new york. which one do you believe? well, it's still going to probably come down a little bit farther and farther, as these models get closer and closer to when the snow starts, compared to when the snow ends. we talked about that yesterday, how it

badge was also found in the city. but dorner's shooting spree may have started days ago here in irvine. on sunday morning, monica quan, the daughter of a police official named in his manifest oh, was shot and killed along with her fiance while sit in their car. on wednesday, police officially named dorner as the suspect. quan, who was 27, was the daughter of retired los angeles police officer randall quan. in dorner's alleged online rantings, he blamed randall quan for mishandling the appeal for his termination. dorner lost his appeal in 2011. before monica quan was killed, dorner allegedly made this threat in his writings. i never had the opportunity to have a family of my own. i'm terminating yours. police here know what they are up against. neighborhoods are on lockdown, intersections sealed off. officers on edge. so much so that two undercover lapd officers opened fire on a pickup truck they thought was dorner's. turns out it was two women delivering newspapers. one was reportedly shot in the hand. the other in the back. but they'll be okay. meantime, the lapd says it's doing all i

resources have been returned to their normal functions. the city has not been on any type of tactical alert since early yesterday morning. and we will remain to -- in that status until further. so, at this time that's about all i have in terms of the investigation. if there's some questions related to the dorner investigation that i'm able to answer, again, i'm not able to comment on anything related to san bernardino. [ inaudible question ] well, again, we have homicide investigation. the fact that the incident transpired yesterday and, you know, we won't speculate at this point whether that is christopher dorner or not. but even if it was to be christopher dorner, again, we have a case to close. just because arrest warrants were issued and charges were filed in riverside, there's still a case pending in irvine. the double homicide. and so there's still much work to be done. we just don't stop an investigation because the suspected individual may no longer be available. . and looking at these cars here in this neighborhood, and throughout the city, you can see how easy that could happen. unfortunately, the young boy became overcome by carbon monoxide. they brought him outside of the car. the young boy was unresponsive. neighbors and paramedics tried to revive the boy. he went into cardiac arrest. and unfortunately a short time later, once he got to hospital, he was pronounced dead. incredibly tragic story and also a reminder, even though the storm has passed, there are still potentially dangerous situations that still remain behind the storm. and, in fact, i reached out to the mayor's office just about an hour and a half ago. the mayor's office releasing a statement saying, in part, the news of this tragic accident is a sad reminder that the danger of the storm is not over. our hearts go out to the family and their friends who are learning of this tremendously sad accident. and the mayor's office also putting out reminders, reminding people as they're coming out like you see in this neighborhood here, to clear out their cars. a lot of people willing to come ou

in chicago have the city in shock. the killing of a 15-year-old girl, gunned down just days after performing at president obama's inauguration. her funeral was yesterday. let's go to ted rowlands with the latest in chicago. what do we know? >> the death of hadiya pendalson has struck a nerve not only in chicago but across the country. tonight, they have two men in custody. one is an 18-year-old man, the other, a 20-year-old man. both are members of a chicago gang. according to a police source, there was no witness who came forward to break this case. police officers worked on tips and were able to go out and find win witnesses. they do not have the murder weapon, according to the source. the charges that the two young men face, one charge of murder. two charges each of attempted murder, and some weapons violations. we're waiting for a press conference at the bottom of the hour with more details, but two arrests in the death of hadiya pendleton. >> do we know what kind of evidence police allegedly have against these two in. >> they don't have the murder weapon, which, of course, is a problem

the cities and small towns prepared properly for this blizzard? even though there's been accidents. the number seems very low compared to 1978 where we saw a death toll of about 100. >> absolutely. it's obvious many lessons learned and technology applied. the government, particularly the northeast is very sensitive with these large populations but still come up to people doing the right thing and staying informed and listen to what the government is saying. i think based on the conditions they've done a good job keeping the public informed. now we need to look out for one another. neighbors check on neighbors. if you know somebody in the region, call them and make sure they're okay. as in the case in katrina and many other disasters, most people that lost their lives, they died alone. now is the time to check on your neighbors and elderly people and people with disabilities and make sure they're okay. >> maybe that neighbor you don't know down the street, maybe you should check on him or her. general russel honore, great words of wisdom. >> and help the red cross. >> that's right.

family lives in fear and what the government's protection. >> and murder in chicago have the city in shock. the killing of a 15-year-old girl, gunned down just days after performing at president obama's inauguration. her funeral was yesterday. let's go to ted rowlands with >> reporter: they have made arrests arrests of two of them. they were both picked up on saturday night. they've now been charged with one count of murder and two counts of murder plus some weapons violations. michael ward according to police, the 18-year-old, has confessed to killing high dia pendleton by accident. he thought there were rival gang members in the group and opened fire. he didn't realize he was opening fire on a 15-year-old and her friends after they had just completed a final exam in high school. ward said that he got out of a car, shot the individuals under this overhang in a park, and then was taken away in a getaway car by williams. according to police, nobody stepped forward. the break in the case came from the police were getting leads and going out and actually finding witnesses that they w

of law enforcement. local, city, state, federal involved here. you have been at the press conferences all day. you are coming from the san bernardino sheriffs office. let's play a little sound from cindy bachman at one of the press conferences. here it is. >> we had reason to believe it was christopher dorner because he victims of the car theft said the suspect that stole their car looked like him and his actions after stealing the vehicle led us to believe even stronger that it was him. we have not confirmed that it is him. >> you have to remember, this is a very confusing situation. a lot of different law enforcement involved. this happened randomly. they hadn't been tailing this suspect. what happened essentially in short hand format is they got a report from people who had their pickup truck hijacked. the people who were driving the vehicle said they identified the man who did it as christopher dorner, the excop, the subject of this manhunt. that of course triggered the suspicion of wildlife and game officers who were there. they wound up getting in to a fire fight with this suspect.
